Apple Pie Smoothie

October 7, 2014 Leave a Comment

Apple-Pie-SmoothieSo I woke up the other morning with the desire to eat pie. Apple pie.

I must have been dreaming about pie or something, because I woke up, with droll all over my face, ready to bake me a pie for breakfast.

But then I came to my senses. “Pie isn’t for breakfast, silly!”, I said to myself.

Apple-Pie-Smoothie-VeganBut I still craved apple pie. So what did I do? I made a smoothie of course! I normally have a green smoothie in the morning, but since my apple pie craving was SO SO STRONG, as in, MUST HAVE IT NOW, I went with a smoothie that tasted like apple pie.

I just threw a bunch of pie ingredients into a blender, added more liquid (duh), and let the blender whirl. And wouldn’t you know it? This smoothie tasted just like apple pie! Without the delicious flaky crust, of course.

But still – YUM.

Easy-Vegan-Apple-Pie-SmoothieI was drinking apple pie! From a glass! In the morning!

I’m such a rebel.

Vegan-Apple-Pie-SmoothieNow you can be a rebel, too. Go ahead, drink some pie.

Incredible Nutty Banana Smoothie

July 15, 2014 6 Comments

Banana-Nut-Smoothie

A few weeks ago, I was feeling a bit daring and decided to break out of my regular fruit smoothie routine. I didn’t want fruit, so I turned to nuts! A nut smoothie? Sure, why not?

Nutty-Banana-Smoothie

I have at least one fruit smoothie every day, but this day… I just wasn’t feelin’ them. I still wanted to have a smoothie, but I wanted something different. Not fruity.

Banana-and-Nut-Smoothie

So, I threw this concoction together and low and an behold – it came out tasting delicious. Very, very delicious, if I do say so myself. It’s now one of my favourite smoothies. Whenever I get bored of fruit smoothies, this one is next in line.

Pineapple, Banana & Hemp Smoothie

June 17, 2014 1 Comment

Pineapple-Banana-Smoothie

This is one of my favourite smoothies for 2 reasons:

1. It has pineapple, which is one of my favourite fruits that I don’t buy year-round because they taste best only when in season.

2. It’s fast. Most smoothies are fast, but this one is EXTRA FAST.

The Breakfast Smoothie Bowl

May 30, 2014 3 Comments

I must have been living under a rock for awhile, because I hadn’t heard of smoothie bowls until last month.

Now, they seem to be popping up everywhere I look! Not that I’m complaining or anything…

Smoothie-Bowl

What is a smoothie bowl, you ask? Simple: a smoothie – in a bowl (made a bit thicker). Yes, I’m serious. Yes, it’s way more fun than it sounds. Yes, it’s just as tasty in a bowl as it would be in a glass.

This was my first every smoothie bowl that I made last week. It’s just frozen blueberries, a large banana, some ground flax seed and a bit of almond milk, topped with homemade granola, coconut and fresh raspberries.

Big-Smoothie-Bowl

It did not disappoint. I love that I can add all kinds of toppings, which you can’t really do with a “regular” smoothie (drinking shredded coconut and granola would probably not work very well)!

Now, what can I make next? If you’ve made smoothie bowls before, what do you like putting in yours?

Prep time: 5 mins
Total time: 5 mins
Serves: 1
Ingredients
  • 1 large ripe banana
  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  • 1 tbsp ground flax seed (optional)
  • 1 cup non-dairy milk (I used almond)
  • Topping of choice (I used granola, coconut and fresh raspberries)
Instructions
  1. Add all ingredients (except toppings) to your blender, and blend until smooth & creamy. You want it to be a bit thicker than a traditional smoothie that you would drink.
  2. If the mixture is too thin, add another 1/2-1 banana or more berries.
  3. Scoop mixture into your bowl and top with your toppings of choice. Eat with a spoon!

Classic Green Monster Smoothie

April 17, 2014 2 Comments

Green-Monster

If the 15 year old me could only see me now.. drinking spinach. I would have had my jaw on the floor, that’s for sure.

This smoothie, though – it’s amazing. Chock full of nutritious and delicious ingredients, it’s a surefire way to drink yourself happy!

This recipe is totally customizable, too. Use what you have on hand, but I always suggest a green (kale works well) and a banana (for creaminess), at least. If I really feel like something sweet, I will add in 2-3 dates as well. Or some agave. Or maybe syrup. You get the idea.

Have you had your green monster smoothie today?

Strawberry Banana Coconut Smoothie

April 1, 2014 3 Comments

Banana-Strawberry-Coconut-Smoothie

I had about a cup of coconut milk leftover from a recipe and decided to throw it into my smoothie the other day – and, well, my mind was blown. Why has no one ever told me to put coconut milk into a smoothie before? It’s ridiculously good!

Strawberry-Banana-Coconut-Smoothie

I’ve made this smoothie twice now, and the second time I made it, I added a handful of spinach as well. It didn’t look as pretty, but it tasted just as good, and gave me added nutrients from the spinach!
